Primary Privilege: Metamorph

Regressive Privilege: Illusionist

Joe is what one would call an acquired taste, one that Jolene and her friends are still not certain of. He is a Barrow Hound by day, a somewhat pet to Alfie, though it wouldn’t be wise to call him that. He has said that he was cursed to be the hound by his own mother, but the details of that story he has yet to share with someone. During the night he returns to his usual self, a tall, rangy Englishman with a penchant for swearing and drinking. Though he has yet to demonstrate his knowledge for magic, it would seem he comes from a place less repressed than Benton. We can be sure with Kilgore, that the best is yet to come.

“I’m Kilgore – the mutt at the pub, remember,” Joe said in an attempt to jog her memory. Not accustomed to leaving such a fleeting impression, he seemed disappointed that she didn’t recall the meeting.

Urban Fantasy & New Cover

SoSfinal

First off, forgot to mention I had a new cover for SoS made, and I love it! It is still bright and colorful, and looks completely like a happy cartoon (which is a bit deceiving, and I like that hehe).Let me know what you think! Also, it’s a rainy day here, and those get me thinking, and I’m trying to find more fans of the Urban Fantasy sub-genre, readers and writers alike. It’s nice to share words with people of similar interests, so if you’re looking to gab, I’m all ears 😉

Primary Privilege: Resurgent

Regressive Privilege: Unknown so far.

We are first introduced to Alfie in a conversation between Jolene and Maeve. They all went to the same school in Benton for a time, and he reputedly had an unsettling fixation for Jolene. With the years that have passed, he has since acquired ownership over the local bar ‘The Pyg’s Head’, where Simon works as his bartender, and his enormous dog Kilgore prowls. Theresa is his younger sister, who works at the apothecary in town. We have yet to see any of his other close relationships, but he shares a tentative connection to Clare, as seen in Chapter 3. As a Primary resurgent, Alfie has a morbid contentment around death and regards it as more of a friend than of a thing to be feared. He’s reserved and harsh, but not to be mistaken for cruel, and we will see where his path leads in regards to Jolene.

Alfie was smiling somewhat, though he made to hide it just the slightest bit for her benefit. She didn’t like the idea of him doing her any favors, especially since he felt he had need to. “It means you still don’t know what to do with your privilege because you’ve never bothered to learn. You’re weak.”                                               Alfie to Jolene, From Shores of Sorcery Chapter 4

Primary Privilege: Water Speaker

Regressive Privilege: Unknown

In the story so far, we have seen that Jolene is determined if not a bit pessimistic. She is loyal to her two closest friends Clare Porcher and Maeve Donohue, and is a close acquaintance to Simon the bartender. She left their hometown of Benton 12 years ago, having said that she wasn’t the biggest fan of the East Coast town. Though we have yet to hear from Doris Brock, Jo’s mother, we have seen into their relationship a bit from what Jolene has said. Jolene takes after her mother in magic, both being primary water speakers. Everything Jo has been exposed to in their craft has been from what her mother has taught her, including some interesting bedtime stories about their peoples history. Something about Jolene’s upbringing may explain the tentative relationship shared between her and ‘Alfie’ Sokolsky, and we can be sure that more of that is to come.

“I’m a water speaker,” Jolene said, quickly changing the subject. “I don’t know my regressive skill yet, but I take after my mother as well.”                              From Shores of Sorcery Chapter 7

Life Talk!

1ff2d34f5109771a8fa798aca4fb8f4a

Alright guys, just popping in to say hello. I have some exciting updates happening right now in my writing life. I made a wonderful friend on DeviantArt who is drawing some sketches of my characters from Shores of Sorcery and I am so excited to share those with you guys once they’re done (I’ve seen early previews, and I’m thrilled!) Also I have found my way out of my writing rut. I started a werewolf story (of all things) and I’ve completed two chapters already. It’s on Wattpad, though I have yet to decide if I will post it here because this is my designated space for SoS only. And my next chapter for SoS is coming along faster than usual as well, so whoopie!

As for something fun to say, I saw Wonder Woman this weekend with my sister, and it was so awesome. No spoilers, but it made me wish superheros were real so that during WWI & WWII our boys at war could have been saved some pain by the strength of these heroes. I feel so sappy saying that, but Wonder Woman and Captain America both take place in the war settings, and it made me hope for that.

Chapter Update! And Life Update!

Alright folks I’m back with a brand new update for Shores of Sorcery, this being Chapter 10: The First Supper. Our gang of magic casters is finally meeting together for the first time at Clare’s house to discuss what could be their future.

As for me personally, I’ve been away awhile. I’ve started a new nursing job at a hospital and I’m learning so much! Writing is still my number one passion, but I approach everything in life with my best effort, and I really want to be the best healer I can be towards my patients. Meanwhile I’m getting back into outdoor exercise now that the weather is permitting me to (Canada, am I right?). I have much more notes written for my story on where it’s headed, so hopefully I can crack out a few more updates sooner. I love writing in the summertime, being in my room while listening to the sounds outside is relaxing for me. Any more questions for me, let me know. I appreciate a kind word when it comes from someone with similar interests as me 😉

Chapter 9 Update

Shores of Sorcery My Urban Fantasy story has a new chapter added. Chapter 9: An Afternoon Visit. I’m posting more of it on writing.com as well. I’m dedicating this chapter to my new friend Marium, who calls me her Hannah (not my name), and wants me to never give up writing.

In the sleepy town of Benton, Massachusetts, nothing extraordinary has ever happened to put it on the map, or make it on to the six o’clock news. A former resident of the town, Jolene is back when called on by friend Clare, who’s in need after the death of her husband. Not thrilled with the arrangement, Jo makes the best of a bad situation, but she can’t seem to stop stepping on toes. And Charlie Sokolsky, now going by Alfie, is a face she wants to avoid, but keeps coming across.

What’s worse than anything is Jolene is a witch, and not a particularly skilled one when it comes down to helping those she cares about. A strangeness is brewing, and a threatening blackness has slipped over Benton that the town has never seen. Alongside the strength of her friends, and a few enemies, Jolene will have to discover for the first time what it truly means to be a witch. She must grow to the height of her family’s powers, or face eternal suffering from the destructive force that is coming.

Writing Time

Just wanted to share a quick link to my writing.com portfolio. I’m posting Shore’s of Sorcery there as well. My page doesn’t look like much yet because I’m still getting used to the format there, but everyone is really helpful and I’ve had a good experience there already! Definitely worth a check out if you guys are looking for another platform to write on.
